Special Milk Rolls

1 package dry yeast powder
2 teaspoons white sugar
1-1/2 cups lukewarm water
6 tablespoons white sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1-1/2 cups milk
1 cup water
8 cups sifted all-purpose flour
5 tablespoon shortening
2 eggs

Add yeast and 2 teaspoons sugar to lukewarm water; stir and let stand for 10 minutes. Bring milk to a boil, add the 1 cup of water and 6 tablespoons of sugar and salt. When lukewarm, add yeast mixture and then 3 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Add softened shortening and slightly beaten eggs. Add remaining flour to make an easily handled dough. Knead well. Place in greased bowl. Cover; let rise in warm place free from draft until double in bulk, about 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Punch down and let rise until light, about 45 minutes. Shape into rolls and let rise until light, away from draft if the temperature is quite warm. Preheat oven to 400 deg. F. Bake for 20 minutes or until done.
