Oven French Toast

1-1/2 loaves French Bread
9 to 12 eggs
2 cups milk
2 cups half and half
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2 tablespoons dark Karo syrup
1-1/2 sticks butter
3/4 cups brown sugar
1 apple, chopped
1/2 cups chopped nuts

Prepare the night before. Cut bread in 1-inch slices and place, 2 deep, in 9×13-inch greased baking pan. Beat eggs, milk, half and half, cinnamon and nutmeg together and pour over bread. Melt butter, brown sugar and Karo syrup in small saucepan and pour over bread and egg mixture. Top with chopped apple and nuts. Bake at 350 for 1 hour, covered with foil, 1/2 hour uncovered. Serve with pancake syrup and whipped topping.
