1/2 cup ripe olives
1/2 lb. ground chuck steak
1 tablespoon shortening
8 ounces can tomato sauce
15 ounce can kidney beans
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
2/3 cup water
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/16 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
6 hamburger buns
Soft Butter
Cut olives in wedges. Brown meat in shortening in large skillet. Add tomato sauce, undrained beans, onion, water, chili powder, salt and pepper. Cover; simmer 1/2 hour. Add olives and cheese. Heat uncovered until cheese melts. Ladle into preheated wide mouthed quart vacuum jar. Cover. At picnic site, split and butter buns. Fill with chili mixture.
