4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons salt
1-1/3 cups shortening
In large bowl, combine dry ingredients. Using pastry blender or two knives used scissors-fashion, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add about 8 tablespoons ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, tossing with fork, until dough begins to hold together. Transfer to lightly floured work surface and knead lightly to form ball.
NOTE:
To use food processor with knife blade attached: Blend dry ingredients in work bowl; add shortening and blend until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add 7 tablespoons ice water all at once and pulse just until dough forms a ball.
