Caramel Pecan Pie

1 (14-ounce) package soft caramel candies
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup butter
3 large eggs
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped pecans
1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell

Preheat oven to 350*F.

In the top of a double boiler over boiling water combine caramel candies, water, and butter. Reduce the heat to low. Cook, stirring occasionally, until melted and smooth. Remove from the heat.

In a medium bowl, combine eggs, sugar, vanilla, and salt; beat well.

Stir into the caramel mixture gradually; mix well. Add chopped pecans then pour into unbaked pie shell. Bake for 45 minutes.

Makes 8 servings.
