8 thick wooden skewers,
8 saveloys (frankfurters)
1tbs plain flour,
oil for deep frying,
tomato sauce(ketsup)
To make the batter:
1/4 cup self raising flour,
2tbs plain flour,
1/4 teaspoon bi-carb soda,
1/2 cup water
1 egg (slightly beaten)
Skewer the sav through the centre (lengthways) leaving enough skewer at the end to make a handle. Dust the savs lightly with flour.
To make the batter:
Place flours, soda, water and egg in a food processor and blend for 10 seconds, or until smooth, transfer the mixture to a bowl. Heat the oil to a moderately hot temperature (use a deep heavy based pot or pan ), holding the end of the skewers, dip sav into mixture, making sure to coat completetly (drain off excess batter). Holding skewer ends, lower (gently) into the hot oil (hold for a few secs, till sav’s float). Cook for 1 minute or till golden in colour, remove from oil and drain on absorbent paper, repeat the process till all the savs are done. Then re-dip each sav in the batter and cook again till golden brown…… serve with a bowl of tomato sauce for dipping…..
