Basic Scones

4 c flour
2 tablespoon baking powder, rounded
2 teaspoon salt
8 tablespoon sugar
14 tablespoon crisco, butter flavor
1-1/3 c milk
4 tablespoon milk
dried fruit

Sift together dry ingredients into a medium mixing bowl. Cut in crisco using a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Add dried fruit and 2/3 c milk, and stir just until all is moistened and there are no dry crumbs on the bottom or sides of the bowl. Add 1 – 2 tablespoon milk and stir until it all comes together in a mass.

Dump out onto a lightly floured counter. Knead 10 times. Roll out 3/4 inch and cut with 1 inch biscuit cutter. Place on parchment lined baking sheet and sprinkle with sugar if desired. Heat oven to 450. Let rest 10 minutes while the oven is heating up.

Let scones bake 10 -12 minutes or until tops are golden.
