1.5 L turnips or rutabaga, cubed 6 cup
30 ml butter 2 tbsp
2 eggs, beaten 2
45 ml flour 3 tbsp
15 ml brown sugar 1 tbsp
5 ml baking powder 1 tsp
salt & pepper to taste
pinch nutmeg
125 ml fine bread crumbs 1/2 cup
30 ml butter, melted 2 tbsp
Cook turnips or rutabagas until tender. Drain and mash. Add butter and eggs. Beat well. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, pepper and nutmeg. Stir into turnips. Spoon into well-greased casserole dish.
Combine crumbs and butter. Sprinkle on top. Bake at 375 F (190 C) for 25 minutes or until light brown on top.
