Sweet & Sour Supper

500 g lean ground beef
7 ml chili powder
7 ml dried oregano
5 ml salt
750 ml cooked long grain rice
125 ml mushrooms, sliced
1 green pepper, sliced
250 ml sugar
75 ml cornstarch
625 ml cold water
75 ml white vinegar
75 ml ketchup
7 ml salt
– pepper to taste

In a large skillet; over medium heat, cook beef until no longer pink. Drain. Stir in chili powder, oregano and salt.

In a greased large casserole dish; layer rice, beef mixture, mushrooms and green pepper. Set aside.

In a large saucepan; combine sugar and cornstarch. Stir in water, vinegar, ketchup, salt and pepper. Blend until smooth.. Bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes until thickened.

Pour over layered ingredients. Bake, uncovered in preheated 350 F (180 C) oven for 30 minutes or until heated through.
