Crab Meltaways

According to “Ye Maryland Chronicle” written for the Baltimore Sunday Sun in 1933, the Maryland crab was the main reason for Captain John Smith’s visit to the Chesapeake Bay in 1607. Crab cakes were first eaten by Lord Baltimore in 1634.

1 pkg. English muffins
1 pound crab meat
1 stick butter, softened
1 jar Old English sharp cheese spread
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

Split muffins and cut into 4 pieces. Mix butter and cheese together; add mayonnaise, seasoned salt and garlic salt. Mix all ingredients, then add crab meat. Spread on muffin half and freeze for 1 hour. Broil until bubbly, 10 to 12 minutes, about 3 inches from broiler top. (These can be made ahead and kept in freezer.)
