Boiled Chocolate Fruit Cake

1 cup sugar
2 beaten eggs
4 ozs butter
1 teaspoon lemon essence
1 cup black tea
1-1/2 cups flour
1 tablespoon cocoa
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon coffee essence or instant coffee
1 teaspoon mixed spice
2 cups mixed dried fruit
1 teaspoon baking soda

Boil sugar, butter, tea, coffee and fruit for 5 minutes, add soda and let cool. Add other ingredients and bake 1 hour in moderate oven. Ice with lemon butter icing when cold.
