8 large onions (when peeled and sliced I get about 4 lb)
1 cup water
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup raisins
Peel and halve the onions. Slice thinly. Place onions and water in a saucepan. Bring to the boil and simmer, covered, for 30 minutes. Add cinnamon and sugar. Stir until sugar dissolves. Simmer uncovered for 1-1/2 hours. Add raisins and simmer a further 30 minutes or until liquid has evaporated and mixture has become thick.
Spoon into about 6 jars and seal when cool.
