Apple Almond Torte

8 apples (golden delicious)
11 tablespoon butter
11 tablespoon sugar
3 eggs, separated
1/2 cup almonds
1 teaspoon cornstarch
Zest from one lemon

Peel and chop apples. Stew in small amount of water, just until tender. Drain apples. Pour into a lightly buttered quiche pan. Cream butter and sugar, add egg yolks, and mix. Add almonds and lemon zest. In separate mixing bowl, beat egg whites until thick. Blend in cornstarch. Lightly fold egg whites into the butter mixture. Pour over apples and bake at 400 degrees for 35 minutes.
