Strange as it sounds, grape jelly adds a delightful sweetness to the hearty chili sauce in which these meatballs are simmered. They are easy to assemble and your guests will be amazed when they find out the secret ingredient.
1 pound lean ground beef
1 pound ground turkey
2 large egg whites
1/2 cup soft bread crumbs
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/4 cups prepared chili sauce
1/2 cup grape jelly
3 tablespoons lemon juice
Combine beef, turkey, egg whites, bread crumbs, pepper and garlic powder. Form into 1-inch balls.
In a large skillet, mix together chili sauce, grape jelly and lemon juice. Heat over medium heat, mixing well.
Drop meatballs into sauce without stirring. Cover and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes or until meatballs are cooked all the way through. Serve with extra sauce for dipping.
