Vegetable Soup

1 potato
1 carrot
1 beet
1 turnip
1 onion
1 tablespoon butter
1 bay leaf
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon salt
4 cups water

Wash and dice potato, carrot, beet, turnip, and onion. Melt butter in a saucepan. Add bay leaf and cumin.

Brown in the saucepan then add the diced vegetables and salt. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add water and return to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 1 hour.

Makes 6 servings.
