BASE
4 cups sliced apples
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup water
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 tablespoon butter
TOPPING
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon baking powder
2-1/2 tablespoon shortening
1/2 cup whole milk
To Make Base:
Place apples in baking dish. Mix sugar, flour and salt in bowl. Add water; mix well. Cook over low heat, stirring until thickened. Add vinegar and butter. Pour syrup over apples.
To Make Topping:
Sift dry ingredients together; cut in shortening. Add milk to make soft dough. Drop by spoonfuls onto apple mixture. Bake in hot oven 400 deg. F. for 35 minutes or until done. Serve with milk or sauce.
