Colonial Gingerbread

2 cups flour
1 egg
1 cup molasses
1 teaspoon soda
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon ginger
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup butter or margarine-softened
1/2 teaspoon salt
Confectioners sugar

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease and flour 9X9X2-inch baking pan. Mix all ingredients in large bowl except confectioners sugar. Beat at low speed until blended, then increase to medium speed and beat three minutes. Pour into pan and bake 1 hour. Cool on racks and sprinkle with confectioners sugar.

Makes 12 servings.
