French Toast Casserole with Pr

2 (8-ounce) day-old demi baguettes, cut into 1/2 inch-thick slices
6 large eggs
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar, divided
2 1/2 cups whole milk
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/3 teaspoon kosher salt
Praline-Brandy Sauce (recipe follows)


Spray a 13x9-inch baking dish with cooking spray.

Arrange bread slices in prepared dish, overlapping slightly. In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs and ¾ cup brown sugar. Whisk in milk, butter, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, and salt. Pour over bread; sprinkle with remaining ¼ cup brown sugar. Cover tightly with foil. Refrigerate at least 8 hours.

Preheat oven to 350°.

Bake, covered, 30 minutes. Uncover; bake until lightly browned, about 15 minutes more. Serve with Praline-Brandy Sauce, and garnish with strawberries, if desired.
